Homework 6

Script:

Act 1.

Hope walks through the street in her normal state, finding herself in the middle of a carnival. Inaudible conversations spring across the street, while a busker is playing "You Are My Sunshine" further down. The end of the street is blocked by a towering pile of crates, making it impossible to pass further. There is a single crate nearby a "game tent", where a man calls for everyone to solve his brain-teasing puzzles.

2. Finding nothing in her inventory, the girl frowns at the man.

2. Hope: "Pocketful of Sunshine."

3. Hope: "Independent Women, pt. 1."

With another song now playing, Hope can finally move the crate to the pile and jump over to the other side.

Finding herself over the other side of the crates, Hope stumbles upon a large crowd. She hunches over and tries to pass through them, but everyone ignores her and accidentally pushes her from side to side.

Hope: "Oh... Excuse me... Passing through!.. Ugh. Hello?.. Pardon me... Oof... Ugh..."

Ignored by the cheering crowd, Hope gets frustrated and sad, entering the grief state. By some miracle passing through the crowd, she runs across the end of the street towards the bridge, where she sits at the river bank to compose herself…

Teddy: "That's s-so cool!"

1. Hope: "I need a moment..."

Huxley: "Bah-ha-ha! Would you look at her facial expression? What a corpulent swine!"

The laughter of two bullies could be heard in the background, as a sob follows and the noise of someone running away.

Teddy: "Oh, n-no! It-it-it's the b-b-bullies!"

1. Hope: "It's just a bunch of boys, Teddy."

3. Hope: "Stay here then."

1/2. Teddy: "Nu-uh! I'm n-n-not g-going!"

1.2. The librarian nods and walks away in search of a lost book.

1.3. Librarian: "Perhaps, if people did not lose pieces of literature, I would have time to address your questions."

2. Librarian: "I'm afraid I am currently preoccupied with something else, Fräulein. You'll have to excuse me."

1. Hope: "Ugh... yeah. I'll - I'll check that for you."

3.2. Hope: "I suppose I could help you..."

1.2. Hope: "Right... there you go."

1.3. Hope: "It seems that I am better at this job than you."

2. Librarian: "Humph! And there is your map."

3.2. Hope: "Ugh... yeah. I'll - I'll check that for you."

1.1. Librarian: "Ah, wunderbar! Very good, indeed! Here's the map you had requested."

1.1. Hope: "Thank you."

1.2/3. Librarian: "Bitte schön."

1.1. Librarian: "Bitte schön!"

Hope begins walking towards the exit, but on her way she is intercepted by the bullies.

Humphrey: "Oh my gosh, it's that androgynous piece of paper again!"

Huxley: "Not with that haircut it's not. Perhaps, a self-absorbed, feeble-minded, repulsive feminist?"

Humphrey: "Ha-ha-ha! She does look like a social justice warrior. What a putrid sideshow freak!"

Hope gradually turns invisible with the map still in her grasp, as the bullies see nothing but a floating parchment.

Huxley: "What in the name of the Holy Spirit is this atrocity?!"

Humphrey: "It's just an illusionary projection that is supposed to frighten us, Huxley. Pay it no mind-d-d.."

Huxley: "It's an ethereal apparition, Humphrey! Run!"

Humphrey: "A-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ah!"

The two bullies run away, frightened, as Hope and Teddy begin to laugh.

Teddy: "Ha-ha-ha! You g-go, Hope!"

1. Hope: "Yeah... sure."

2. Hope: "See - no problem at all!"

3. Hope: "Ha-ha! Those idiots!"

Both of them exit the library, laughing, as Teddy uses the map as a guide to point out the way. Hope has returned to her normal state.

Teddy: "Hmm.. I see now! We can go through th-the forest here and we should e-exit at Ridge C-Cottage."

Hope: "Lead the way."

1/2/3.2. Hope: "Why don't you tell someone about it?"

1/2/3.3. Hope: "Don't your parents know you're skipping school?"

Teddy: "M-my mom hasn't been f-feeling right ever since my dad l-left, so I don't want to t-trouble her. I-I'm really good at writing m-m-my own sick notes, th-though! The teachers haven't given me a-any troubles -so far..."

1. Hope remains silent.

2. Hope: "[mumbled] At least you have a mom..."

Teddy: "W-what about your m-mom, Hope? What's she l-like?"

As Teddy asks the question walking over a fallen tree log that acts as a bridge across the river, the wood creaks and cracks, falling down into the water.
