Games Design & Art Year 3
RESEARCH PHASE
The Short Story
Spanning from the 30th of September to the 1st of November, this section is divided into 5 working weeks and two phases. Surrounding the topic of research, it proved to be an important element and foundation to understand, educate ourselves and further develop an idea.
Phase One consisted of engaging workshops that allowed us to generate countless ideas, from which we were required to pick only four and further dive into them. From brainstorming to visual research, reading to discussing, we followed a coherent routine that offered us a plethora of opportunities to recollect our gathered knowledge from previous years. The topics that I had ended up with were Superstitious Beliefs, Astrology, Communication in Nature and Dreaming. This period culminated with the presentation of ideas to the class at the end of Week 3, offering a valuable user experience and peer review.

Having chosen the subject of the highest interest, which may or may not have been influenced by the opinion of others in their voting on the matter, Phase Two marked the further dive into the research phase. Now, it enveloped only one topic and prodded us to fully experience and get behind our subject of interest. The theme I had ended up with was Dreams - not the aspirational kind, but the technical and natural occurrences that spread throughout the whole animal kingdom. It offered all the necessary artistic freedom, while simultaneously being an interesting matter that has yet to be fully explored and defined. Akin to the conclusion of the first phase, these two weeks concluded a class presentation that allowed everyone to share their areas of interest for potential future cooperation in the upcoming phases and year.
